How am i doing? There was a girl on the Skyline Basketball team that came in for advice on her wrist since it hurt her. My mentor tried to figure out her injury but couldn't telling us that usually hand injuries are tricky to diagnose. She couldn't figure out the injury and the girl said it was painful. We gave her ice and wrapped it on her wrist and my mentor sent her to a hand's specialist just incase she had a fracture. After she left, we helped some elderly that were trying to get active my helping them stretch if they needed help.

Mentoring/Service hours 6

Date of Service: 5/4/11                     Time Spent: 3 hours                    Total Time: 15 hours

Action: i continued to learn about the shoulder and looked more into the AC joint.

Next Action: I plan to come back next Monday, May 9, 2011.

How am i doing? my mentor taught me how to find the acromioclavicular joint which was difficult at first. We started by holding on to the clavicle and moving upward to the shoulder until we felt a little space. i had trouble finding this so i started on the acromion which lies on the back of the shoulder and moved towards the shoulder as i did the same time on the clavicle until my fingers met. Doing that, i found it much easier to find the AC joint.

Mentoring/Service hours 5

Date of Service: 5/2/11                  Time Spent: 3 hours                       Total Time: 12 hours

Actions performed: started looking over a PowerPoint on shoulders my mentor made and studied the bones, ligaments, and joints that make up the shoulder.

Next action: i will continue to study the shoulder tomorrow(5/3/11).

How am i doing? I looked at different pictures of all the joints and bones in the shoulder including the clavicle that  rests on the front of the chest connecting to the rib cage and the acromion. My mentor talked to me about the clavicle and how it can break and where it usually breaks. she showed me different situations on which the clavicle could break by looking at pictures. She showed me different tests to find out what the injury is such as the piano key test which is pushing lightly on the top of the clavicle and seeing if it falls down more than it should.
